Greetings Masters, Instructors, Athletes and Families:
The Flex Tae Kwon Do Open gives all of us in the Tae Kwon Do family a tremendous unique opportunity to gather in one place, engage in friendly and spirited competition, make new friends – and see old ones – from all over the area, and celebrate our commitment and dedication to our art.
The Flex Open testifies to our core values as martial artists. While our competition is spirited, each school should exemplify the discipline and honor embodied through our dedication to Tae Kwon Do. To that end, we will be following general guidelines as written in the AAU Tae Kwon Do Rule book. All students must maintain the highest safety standards and be properly outfitted with regulation sparring gear, safety equipment, dobok and belt. Master Milady Jene and I will personally make judgment calls and modify divisions in order to keep the Flex Open as safe as possible. Ultimately, we want this to be a fun family event.
All Master instructors and head instructors please note that we will be using the Brazilian repechage system of bracketed forms. To successfully implement this division, I ask that all Master instructors and head instructors participate as referees in the poomse competition. Competitors should plan to perform either ITF, WTF, TSD or MDK poomses. They should also be prepared to do their poomse more than one time if they are in a large division. I have included a page on bracketed forms for your convenience.
As a courtesy, and with my utmost respect, all Grand Masters, Master instructors and spouses may enter the venue as coaches and/or spectators free of charge. I will need you to RSVP by phone to me personally so that I can relay this information to the check-in staff prior to tournament day. In addition, all those that are coaching will need to fill out a Coach Application.
This website contains all the information you will need to make preparations for this event. The venue for this year’s tournament is the Terraza Event Center. The Center is large enough for 3 rings, has a second floor mezzanine, concession counter and a fenced toddler
playground. It is not as large as last year's venue but has so much more to offer in cleanliness, flexibility in usage and very conveniently located off I-40 and walking distance to hotels. I very much look forward to seeing each and every one of you there.
Sincerely,
Grand Master
